The Hotel Alpin has been a bit of a family favourite for years. And there are plenty of reasons why. The location is fantastic - situated opposite Scheffau's baroque church at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser mountains. Under normal conditions you can ski from almost outside the Alpin, right down to the Bergbahn gondola. If the snow is a little more sparse in the village then the ski bus stops right in front of the hotel too - to save the legs for the mountains. Once back at the hotel tuck into the après ski buffet for a delicious sweet or savoury treat. Highly recommended for the kids is the indoor swimming pool. For adults - there's the wellness area with sauna and steam bath. Scheffau is fairly quiet in the evenings, so there's a good chance you'll spend a few evenings relaxing back at the Alpin. So, to make sure you get the most value from your stay, you've got inclusive drinks from 6pm - throughout dinner - until 9pm. Also there's a self service tea area (with microwave too) open 24 / 7 so you can help yourself to a cuppa whenever you fancy it. Speaking of dinner, the food at the Alpin has a great reputation. Breakfast gives you a wide buffet selection, including bacon and eggs, cereals and fresh fruit. In the evenings you can eat in the excellent main dining room where you'll have a good mix of local and international flavours on the menu. Or book a table at the pizzeria - where the pizzas are both delicious and huge. The Alpin is spread across two buildings - Alpin 1 and Alpin 2. The leisure facilities and main dining room are in Alpin 1, while the reception and the superior rooms are exclusively in Alpin 2.

Scheffau is quintessentially Austrian in style and character. It is a lovely little ski village fully of traditional architecture built in an Alpine style. The centre of the resort has two beautiful old churches and the rest of the buildings which surround these two focal points are chalet-esc buildings made from wood and stone. Scheffau is a pretty quiet village so if you are looking for a ski holidays where you can really get away from the world or just a nice chilled out resort to takle the family too then Scheffau could be the place for you.
Whilst the resort of Scheffau does not pack many punches, the ski area that it is in does. It is part of the Ski Welt which is Austria's largest interconnected ski region. It offers just shy of 300km of piste spread between eight resorts. The main resorts within the area are Soll, Ellmau and Westendorf and Scheffau is conveniently located right in-between Ellmau ansd Soll. It is full linked into the Ski Welt Ski Area and is a brilliant place to stay if you want a quiet weeks holiday but with access to world class skiing that is suitable for all abilities from beginner through to advanced. Those at the advanced end of the ski spectrum might want to to upgrade their lift pass to the AllStarCard which allows you to ski over to Kitzbuhel via Westendorf and enjoy the extended ski region of the KizSki which opens up an extra 170km if piste.
Those with young children will love the quiet nature of Scheffau but you will also apparciated the Kinder Kaiserland ski area which is a specific area for young children to learn to ski. Scheffau prides itself on being a great place for children to have their first ski experience and the ski school will even do lessons from age 2 upwards. They also have the SnowPirates kids club available for child care for kids aged 0-4 years old. It is located at the top of the Brandstadl lift and you can book children in to be looked after for either 3 or 5 hours.

Given that Scheffau is part if the Ski Welt, which is Austria's largest interconnected ski area, there is plenty of skiing for all abilities spread across 280km of piste. The area is also connected to the KitzSki which opens up an extra 170km of piste if you buy the extended area lift pass known as the AllStarCard.
Beginners skiers in Scheffau will learn their trade on the nursery slopes which are located at the top of the Brandstadl lift. It is the perfect environment for learning to ski, with gentle wide open runs. There is also a specific area for children to learn to ski called 'KinderKaiserLand' which is separated off from the other slopes providing a safe environment for young children to take their first ski lessons.
The Intermediate skiing in Scheffau is immense. With 280km of piste covered on the Ski Welt lift pass and 8 resorts to ski in and out of, intermediate skiers will be in heaven on a ski holiday in Scheffau.
Advanced ans expert skiers will love the skiing on over in and around Scheffau. The Ski Welt (which offers some of the best skiing in Austria, if not Europe as a whole) and 280km of interconnected piste combined with a whole host of opportunities for off piste skiing should keep most advanced skiers happy. However, the area has even more to offer if you upgrade your lift pass to the full Kitzbuheler Alpen AllStarCard which also allows you access to Kitzbuhel and beyond and can be reached via Westendorf.
There are great opportunities for snowboarders in Scheffau and the Ski Welt. There is a good variety of pistes meaning that the terrain is good for all abilities and there are some great off piste routes to be found as well. The fact that there are 4 snowparks and 1 half pipe in the area is a huge bonus as well.

The apres ski scene in Scheffau is laid back and quiet. There are a few bars to check out but and the atmosphere is all of them is always very friendly but if you are looking for loud music and partying then you best bet is to look elsewhere. Popular bars include Wiesenhof and Walthof or the “Village Pub”.
