Holidays in Cervinia are very popular with British skiers not just because of the link with Zermatt but also its resort height, which is among the highest in Italy. With a resort height of 2050m, Cervinia has a great early and late season snow record making it a fantastic choice for ski breaks around both Christmas and New Years as well as the Easter holidays.
Buying the full area international pass opens up a massive ski area comprising three resorts; Cervinia itself and Valtournenche, both in Italy, and Zermatt just over the border into Switzerland. Between them there is roughly 350km of piste on offer, about 150km of it on the Italian side of the border.
One of the main attractions of Cervinia for skiers is the beautiful scenery. The resort sits in the shadow of the majestic Matterhorn and while the views from the Italian side may not be as stunning as those from the Swiss side, a room with a Matterhorn view will still take your breath away.
There is a good selection of ski holiday accommodation in Cervinia with the Chalet Hotel Dragon being a very popular choice. The all-inclusive Club Med Cervinia Resort is also very popular – in fact, it’s among the top 3 Club Med resorts for skiers year after year!
The skiing in Cervinia offers a variety of runs from beginner all the way through to advanced although the majority of the skiing is probably suited to intermediate and upper-intermediate skiers. In the region as a whole, there are 33 blue runs, 77 red runs and 28 black runs. The longest run in the area is 22km long and really gets the leg muscles working.
Beginners skiing in Cervinia will begin the week on the nursery slopes which are accessed from lift D and H in the village centre. Within a couple of days you will be able to progress onwards and upwards onto the skiing that an be accessed from lift E. The blue run down from Plan Torrette will provide a good challenge before you head higher up the mountain to test what you have learnt on the rest of the beginner runs that Cervinia has to offer.
The intermediate skiing in Cervinia is plentiful. There is an abundance of challenging blue and red runs and enough skiing to keep even the most adventurous of intermediate skiers happy. From the top of Plateau Rosa there is a 10km run all the way down into the centre of Cervinia as well as a 22km run which takes you all the way down to the heart of the neighbouring Valtournenche. As well as the intermediate skiing in Cervinia and Valtourneche there is also loads of skiing available in Zermatt, on the Swiss side of the region and intermediate skiers will definitely want to purchase the full area international pass to benefit from the full 350km of piste that is on offer.
With access to 28 black runs there is plenty of advanced skiing in Cervinia and the region as a whole. Advanced skiers will love the challenging black run which heads down towards Pan Torrette and the Bardoney mogul run. The long descents down from Plateau Rosa are also a must do for advanced skiers holidaying in Cervinia and a full area pass is a must as you will definitely want to experience the challenging skiing that Zermatt has on offer.

There is plenty of après ski in Cervinia but it is not a resort that has loud music blaring and people dancing on table from the moment that they take of their skis. There are a few lively bars and a couple of late licensed nightclubs. The main bars of interest are the Yeti Bar, Dragon Pub and Pub Grivola. the Dragon Pub is particularly popular with UK guests due to their live sports coverage. The two nightclubs are called L'Etoile and Bianconiglio and they tend to get busier from midnight onwards.
