As the popularity of Austria has increased in recent years with British skiers, so has the popularity of ski holidays in Hinterglemm. However, it is still a great resort to go to and be able to avoid the crowds. Especially during the February half term when crowds in Austria tend to be a lot less than in the French resorts. There is 270km of piste and skiing for all abilities in the Ski Circus area, as well as catering well for snowboarders (see our skiing in Hinterglemm section below for more info). A further 138km of piste can be accessed if you purchase the Alpin Card Lift Pass which allows skiers to link over to Zell am See from Saalbach. With this recently opened link there is a total of 408km of piste on offer.
The popularity of Austria in general has increased over the last few years but particularly the resorts in the bigger linked ski areas and it is for this reason that British skiers have started to look at Hinteglemm more and more. It is in a ski area called the Ski Circus with 270km of piste linking 4 resorts, Saalbach, Hinterglemm and Leogang and Fieberbrunn. As of Dec 2015, Fieberbrunn was linked to Hintergelmm thanks to €20 million investment in infastructure. Saalbach is the biggest of the 4 resorts with loads of bars, restaurants and a few clubs but Hinterglemm has its own charm and has plenty going on to keep you busy whilst on your skiing holiday. A further link to Zell am See has now been opened from Saalbach meaning that keen skiers can now access 408km of pisted skiing!

Hinterglemm is one of the ski resorts that make up the legendary Ski Circus. The ski area is great for all levels with plenty of tree-lined runs to explore. There is a massive 270 km of slopes and Hinterglemm is linked to Saalbach and Fieberbrunn. There is now a further in which allows skiers to access Zell am See via Saalbach meaning that with the Alpin Card Lift Pass there is 408km of piste on pffer.
Beginner skiers in Hinterglemm have there own separate area which is cordoned off for other skiers. This is great as it allows beginners to gain confidence and practice techniques without having to look over their shoulder in fear of someone coming sweeping past them at a rate of knots.
The local slopes of Hinterglemm are perfect for intermediate skiers as are the majority of the slopes in the ski area as a whole. There are 27 blue runs and 29 red runs and the ski area is a total of 270km of piste. There is plenty to keep an intermediate skier entertained for weeks on end and with 3 resorts to ski in and out of there is plenty of opportunity the all important coffee/hot chocolate stops.
The attraction of Hinterglemm to advanced skiers the variety of skiing on offer. There are some harder routes to take if you feel like challenging yourself such as those marked on the piste map as mogul fields or the Orange Diamond runs which are approved off piste itineraries. However, if you don't fancy too much of a challenge the next day there is plenty of upper intermediate skiing to get your teeth into with some with plenty of decent red runs and a few easier black runs.
Hinterglemm is a great place to be based for a snowboarding holiday. Whether you just like riding perfectly groomed piste or whether you like riding non-stop park, Hinterglemm has something for everyone. There are loads of long winding blue and red runs on which to take some wide lines and carve your way down the piste but there are two great snow parks as well. The park in Hinterglemm is well maintained but is more for intermediates but those looking for bigger thrills will want to venture over to Leogang. The Nitro Park in Leogang is rated in the top 3 parks in Austria! It is also worth mentioning that the night park in Hinterglemm is open until 9pm in high season and you can ride the park under floodlights!

As with most of the larger resorts in Austria there is always a nice bit of après ski to be found here and there in Hinterglemm. Goasstall is probably the busiest of all of the après bars that are on offer. However, there is more après ski on offer in Saalbach than there is in Hinterglemm. Thankfully it is very easy to stop of in Saalbach for a spot of apres ski and still get back to Hinterglemm as it is just a short bus ride or taxi if you miss the last lifts.
If you are after dancing on tables, a great atmosphere, live music, and plenty of stein's (beers served in what is almost a 2 pint glass) then look no further than the Hinterhag Alm located on the slopes just above Saalbach. Just be prepared to have to ski down to the village once the party has stopped!
