Small in size but big on charm, the Eckartauerhof has a chocolate-box look, with wraparound balconies and plenty of carved wood. And the setting's got that snug, alpine getaway feel too, from the views of the snowy Ziller valley out front to the pine-covered mountainsides behind. The Schneebergers have been running things since it opened in the 60s, so it’s got the family-run feel that small Austrian stays are famous for. And it also ticks off all your post-ski essentials, with a bar and little wellness area where you can freshen up after a slope session. Food is another highlight here, starting with a breakfast buffet that’s chock-full of local faves – think baskets of bread and platters of meat and cheese. Then to round off the day, the kitchen goes all out serving up 5-course evening meals. With lots of stews, dumplings and filling soups, it’ll hit the spot for hungry skiers, and you’ll get a choice of main course too. As for the location, you’ll be staying outside the resort centre, so it’ll fit the bill if you prefer peaceful surroundings. Then when it’s time to head up the mountain, just hop on the free ski bus that stops outside to get to the Hornbergbahn gondola in around 5 minutes.

Mayrhofen ski holidays take you to a stunning town within the Ziller river valley in the Austrian Tyrol. Mayrhofen is a snow sure resort situated near the Hintertux glacier standing at a mighty 3250m, ideal for late season skiing and consequently very popular in March and April. Mayrhofen is often considered to be one of the world’s top ten ski resorts not just because of its spectacular scenery but also its large and varied ski area.
The ski resort itself has 157km of piste with access to the 86km on the Hintertux glacier included in your area lift pass and just a short (free!) bus journey away. The ski area is linked to Finkenburg, Lanersbach and Schwendau creating the massive Zillertal 3000 area. This extensive area has access to around 600km of piste, perfect for adventurous skiers and snowboarders during the winter, and is often popular with groups for both New Year and Easter ski holidays.
Our Mayrhofen ski accommodation includes catered ski chalets and many ski hotels. Whether you’re on a budget or looking for a luxury hotel we have packages departing on Saturdays from mid-December through to the end of April from most regional airports within the UK.
The ski resort of Mayrhofen is a beautiful picturesque resort (as you’d expect from Austria) nestled between the Penken and Ahorn mountains, and located only a short transfer away from Innsbruck. With a transfer time of approximately 1 hour it’s one of the shortest transfers in the Alps, ideal for ski and snowboarding holidays or for family ski trips.
Although the Mayrhofen ski resort is at 600m there are 2 main lifts in town, the fast Penken Gondola next to the Sport Hotel Strass and the Ahorn cable car, these quickly take you up to high skiable areas. There’s one amazing piste that runs into town that is a fast downhill run through the trees; here at iSki, we think it’s one of the best runs on the planet!
There is a good mix of skiing available in Mayrhofen that is suited to all level and abilities. Have a read through our guides below and see for yourself.
Beginner Skiing in Mayrhofen ****
The best slopes for beginner skiers are on the Ahorn mountainside where the best blue runs are for practice.
Intermediate Skiing in Mayrhofen *****
The best slopes for intermediate skiers are on the Penken side as that’s where you’ll find the greatest number of red runs. These pistes are ideal for carving around on.
Advanced Skiing in Mayrhofen ****
There are 22km of black runs for expert skiers including the infamous Harakiri, near Penken peak which, boasting a gradient of 78%, is the steepest run in Austria.
Snowboarding in Mayrhofen ****
Mayrhofen snowboarding holidays are fantastic as there is a huge snowpark that is well maintained and sponsored by Vans.
This is definitely one lively town! there are some fantastic slope side après bars and Mayrhofen listed as one of our best après ski resorts. There are many clubs and discos open till the early hours of the morning. It also hosts Snowbombing, a dance music festival every April.
There are some fantastic local restaurants and health spas making it perfect for non-skiers. Also skidooing, paragliding, squash, indoor tennis, snowshoeing and many kms of fantastic footpaths for some breathtaking winter walks.
