When looking at ski holidays in Sestriere the main plus points that you will initially notice are the resort height (for snow security) and the amount if skiing (400km of piste). With a resort height of 2035m you can be assured of snow all the way through from early December through until mid to late April. However, another plus point that might not be not obvious up front is the value for money that is on offer. The full area Milky Way lift pass is only about £150 per adult, which for a major European ski area with a modern lift system and a vast amount of skiing is an absolute bargain. In the major Swiss and French escorts you are normally paying £200-£300 per adult these days.
Sestriere is in a fantastic location right in the middle of the Milky Way ski area. The neighboring resorts are Sauxe d'Oulx, Sansicario and Claviere. If you by the week-long full area lift pass then you also get a day skiing in Montegenevre on the French side of the border. In total there are 400km of piste on offer with a great variety of skiing for beginner, intermediate and advanced skiers. It is a purpose-built resort and in fact was the first purpose-built resort in the Alps. Originally built by Fiat’s Giovanni Agnelli in the 1930s it was all about snow security which is why it was built at such a high altitude. Sestriere is not the prettiest of villages but as is normally the resorts it is very functional and accessing the skiing is easy from most of the accommodation options on offer with iSki.
There are plenty of hotels on offer in Sestiere bit of you are struggling to know where to start then we not give us a call and let us do the hard work for you. Simple give us a call (02037780123), tell us what you are after and sit back and relax whilst we find the most suitable holiday options for your group's Sestriere ski holiday.
Sestriere is a great resort for beginner skiers. The nursery slopes are very easily accessed from the centre of the village so no need to get a big intimidating gondola before getting to the slopes which are suitable for beginners. After a couple of days of lessons on the nursery slopes you should then be able to progress onto the wide open blue pistes that are on offer and you might even get a couple of reds runs under your belt by the end of the week.
There is an immense amount of intermediate skiing in Sestriere. In fact it is a real intermediate skiers paradise. 80% of the pistes in that area are classed as blue or red and with a total of 400km of piste in the area you will never get board. If you purchase a week long full area lift pass then you get a days skiing in Montgenevre included in the lift pass which is well worth skiing over too. However, it is a long old ski so make sure that you get hot the slopes early.
There is some brilliant advanced skiing in Sestriere and any advanced skiers choosing Sestriere as the destination for their ski holiday will absolutely love it! 400km of piste makes Sestriere are the Milky Way one of the biggest ski area in Europe and with a combined number of 151 red and black runs in the area you are sure to find enough challenging skiing to keep you going for a week and even more. Expert skiers will also want to check out Olympic Down Hill run that it on offer from the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics. Purchasing a full area lift pass is a must for any experts holidaying in Sestriere and you will definitely want to make the most of the days skiing of offer in Montgenevre.
There is loads of snowboarding in Sestriere which is suitable for snowboarders of all levels. 400km of runs will be plenty enough for those whom like shedding up piste whilst there are 5 snow parks in the area. They have a well looked after snow park in Sestriere itself as well as four other parks in and around the Milky Way as a whole. Snowboarders who like off piste will find plenty on offer here as well. See our off piste section below.
There is some great off piste skiing in Sestriere and the Milky Way as a whole. There is loads of easily accessible off piste in Sestriere where you can just hop off the side of the piste to catch some lines in the fresh snow fall. Some of the best of piste in the area can be found on the face heading down from Sauze d'Oulx towards to Sestriere. There are some great routes down underneath the gondola that takes you to Sestriere from Sauze d'Oulx and there is a brilliant bowl leading to a tree lined valley on the other side. However, be prepared for a slight walk at the end. There are also some awesome tree lined routes which run all the way down fro the highest slopes on the Sauze side all the way down to Jouvenceaux. But be careful as you are not meant to ski off piste in Itlay without a local guide! Ski patrol keep a close eye on the goings on but it does mean that the off piste does not get tracked out so you can still get fresh lines up to and beyond a week of a snowfall.

There are plenty of bars on offer and the apes ski can be very lively at weekends but during the week things can be a bit quieter. However, if you fancy a drink or two then you will find plenty of bars and the best late night venue for those who want to keep things going until the early morning is Tabata disco. If you fancy a sophisticated night out then you will find a couple of decent piano bars on offer as well.
