Located at the foot of the epic north face of the Eiger, Ski holidays in Grindelwald are ideal for beginner and intermediate skiers and also offer an unbelievable backdrop. However, there is still much to keep advanced skiers happy as well. Grindelwald is one of the main ski resorts within the Jungfrau region and the lift pass covers not only Grindelwald but also Wengen and Murren with roughly 214km of piste on offer.
Grindelwald is located along a valley floor with direct access to two ski areas, one on either side of the valley. The 'First' ski area, which you will find to the left hand side of the piste map is full of blue and red pistes with some fantastic tree lined runs. Whilst the Kleine Scheidegg / Mannlichen area is on the other side of the valley and links skiers over towards Wengen.
The Jungfrau region is renowned as being one the the most naturally beautiful and stunning ski areas in Europe and Grindelwald is no exception to this. It is connected by a modern lift system as well as the legendary Swiss mountain rail network. As is often the case with Swiss ski resorts the Swiss rail network is used in the Jungfrau region to interlink the ski resorts in the area alongside the lift system and the crown jewel in the area is the Jungfraujoch Cog Railway which takes you from the Kleine Scheidegg ski area at 2061m all the way up to 3454m to what is called the viewing platform at the 'Top of Europe'.
As one of Switzerland's top ski areas yet often not coming with the price tag of resorts such as Zermatt and Verbier, a ski trip to Grindelwald could be just what you are after. Why not call our sales team today for some friendly advise and to get your holiday booked!
Grindelwald is great for beginner skiers with easy runs to gain your ski legs on and then plenty of slightly harder runs to progress onto towards the end of your holiday. Ski school meets at Bodmi towards the top end of the village which is where the easy access nursery slopes are. After a day or two on the nursery slopes you will progress to the blue runs at the top of 'First' and then by the end of the week you will hopefully have the confidence to try a couple of the red runs and even head further afield to the slopes on the Kleine Scheidegg / Mannlichen side.
Intermediate skiers in holiday in Grindelwald with be in their element right from the word go. The three ski areas of First, Kleine Scheidegg and Mannlichen are perfect for intermediates with blue runs to test you ski legs on to start with a loads of red runs that will keep you happy run after run. You will no doubt also want to ski down to Wengen and then possibly also get the train and cable car along the valley to Murren for even more variety of slopes.
Advanced skiers in on holiday in Grindelwald with love the variety of slopes on offer. Although most of the pistes are red and blue there is a good chunk of black runs thrown into the mix as well. In all there are 23 blue runs, 34 red runs and 19 black runs spread over 214km of piste. The longest run in the who area is located in Grindelald and it is 9km long! As well a s challenging your self on all of the pistes in all 3 resorts (Grindelwald, Wengen and Murren) expert skiers will also want to check out the famous Lauberhorn Down Hill World Cup run.
Grindelwald has steadily become more and more popular with snowboarders over the years and snowboarding holidays in Grindelwald are now very popular. The fact that they now have two terrain parks has definitely helped. There is a decent warm up park at the top of Oberjoch but the best park for those seeking thrills and spills is the 'White Elements' terrain park at Bargelegg. The general conditions for snowboarding in Grindelwald are also pretty good even if you are not looking to go big in the park. There are plenty of natural jumps to be found in the Mannlichen area and the pistes are great for cruising.
As with most ski resorts there is some decent off piste skiing in Grindelwald. However, this is not something that the resort heavily sells itself on. There are some decent off piste descents to be found on the 'First' side as well as some great off piste routes underneath the north face of the Eiger which can be accessed with help from the Eigernordwand lift. It is also possible to off piste down from the Jungfraujoch but a guide is a must have. Heliskiing is also on offer and as is the case with all off piste skiing you should always have the correct safety equipment in place first.

For a bit or après ski straight after the skiing try Challi where you will often find live music and for fun later on in to the night try Mescalero and Plaza Club.
On top of the traditional après ski in Grindelwald there are loads of other non ski activities to do as well. From curling and ice skating to winter walking paths and snow shoeing, all the way through to helicopter tours of the Jungfrau massif, there is something for everyone and on all budgets. A must do when on holiday in Grindelwald is the excursion to the UNESCO heritage site of the Jungfraujoch 'Top of Europe' view platform and Aletsch glacier at the top of the Jungfraujoch Cog Railway.
