Safety advice
Balconies
Please note that safety standards around balconies, railings and public walkways are different in Switzerland and may be lower or have ornamental features that you wouldn’t see in the UK or Ireland.
For your own safety and that of everyone you’re travelling with, please make sure you take care not to lean on or over any railings. If you have children under 12 years, please make sure they’re supervised and not left alone at any time.
Fire safety
Please be advised that fire safety standards in Switzerland differ to those in the UK and Ireland, and on occasion you may be in a hotel where the fire escape is in the form of an external ladder and/or you may be required to evacuate via another bedroom. Please ensure that you familiarise yourself with the exits and procedures in your hotel on arrival and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact a member of reception or our resort staff.
Ski holidays in Wengen are ideal for intermediate skiers. The majority of the local slopes are made up of red runs and there are over 200km of piste on which to hone your skills. Beginner skiers are also well catered for by the Beginners' Park at Kleine Scheidegg. However, there is still plenty to keep an advanced skier happy for a weeks ski holiday as well. There are three resort covered on the lift pass (Wengen, Grindelwald and Murren) and each resort has something different to offer.
The area itself is stunning and the Wengen as a ski resort is full of Classic Swiss charm and character aided by the fact that the resort is virtually traffic free. It sits at the foot of the Jungfrau and the scenery is breathtaking. The easiest resort to get over to from Wengen is Grindelwald which can either be accessed by cable car and then a ski down from Mannlichen or via the mountain railway up to Kleine Scheidegg and then a ski down underneath the iconic north face of the Eiger. Alternatively you can get the railway and cable car down the valley to Murren for even more skiing.
Two must do activities during your Wengen ski holiday are to visit the Jungfraujoch on the on the Jungfraujoch Cog railway and to visit the revolving restaurant in Murren where they filmed James Bond 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'. Beginner skier in well catered for in Wengen by the Beginners' Park in the Kleine Scheidegg ski area. You access this from the resort by taking the mountain railway so there is no need for beginners to have to take a scary chair lift or button lift first thing in the morning. It is also easy to take the mountain railway back down again at the end of the day. However, once you have done a couple of days skiing you will not doubt want to ski all the way back down into the village which can be accessed via blue run all the way down.
The skiing in Wengen is perfect for intermediate skiers. There are plenty of blue runs which you can start on at the beginning of the week so as to find your ski legs again and then there is an abundance of reds runs to move onto and explore. The easy link over to Grindelwald gives you access to even more runs and the fact that you can get the train and cable car down the valley to Murren opens up even more opportunity for skiing varied runs.
Whilst there is not as much advanced skiing in Wengen as there is intermediate skiing, there is still plenty to keep an advanced skier happy for a week. There are 23 blue runs, 34 red runs and 19 black runs in the Jungfrau region as a whole and the longest run on offer is a thigh burning 9km which is located in Grindelwald. Any advanced skiers on holiday in Wengen will undoubtedly also want to test themselves on the work famous Lauberhorn World Cup Downhill run and will definitely want to take advantage of the full area lift pass given access to all three resorts (Wengen, Grindelwald and Murren). You need the fill area pass to access Murren but it is well worth a visit and offers some of the most challenging slopes in the region.
The snowboarding on off on the local slopes to Wengen is best suited to those looking to shrewd some lines on the wide pistes down from Mannlichen or in search of some nice natural jumps for jibbing. For snowboarders looking for the thrills of the snow park the head over to Grindelwald and seek out the 'White Elements' terrain park.
Is there plenty of off piste skiing in Wengen and the surrounding resorts. Some of the best off piste runs in the area can be found underneath the north face of the Eiger and there are also some interesting off piste descents in the 'First' area in Grindelwald. One of the big draws to the area for those looking for off piste skiing is the decent down from Jungfraujoch. This off piste route is awesome but a guide with local knowledge is essential.
