The bold, zebra-style stripes on the outside are the first clue that this isn’t your classic Austrian stay. Step inside, and there’s a funky feel from top to bottom, with its technicolour paint scheme, patterned wallpaper and quirky decorations, like the flamingo mounted on the wall behind the bar. It's all about traditional alpine hospitality when it comes to the service and food though. The friendly, local staff are always on hand to rustle up your favourite cocktail or share the latest snow info. There are lots of tasty, regional dishes to tempt your tastebuds at breakfast and dinner. And if you get peckish between meals, you can order things like toasted flatbreads from the à la carte snack menu. You can't beat a spot of R and R after a big day on the mountain, so swing by the hotel’s wellness area to recharge those ski legs with some sauna time or a few leisurely laps in the pool. Location: One of the highest resorts in the Alps, St Christoph is part of the Arlberg ski area. The 305km of piste link it to St Anton, Lech and Zürs to make the biggest ski area in Austria. Most of the local slopes are blues, but the rest of the area has tons for intermediates and experts. The village is the epitome of small but perfectly formed. It’s only got 25 buildings and is set in an open bowl, surrounded by snowy slopes – so it’s the ideal choice if you’re after a bit of peace and quiet to go with the excellent skiing. The few hotels are high quality, and there are some great little restaurants to try too, including the famous Hospitz Alm with its 600-year-old wine cellar. You can spend your evenings relaxing in a cosy lounge, sipping a glass of wine. Or head to nearby St Anton for a livelier night out. It’s famous for having one of the best après scenes in Europe. • Ski-in • 2 minutes’ walk to the Maienseelift drag lift • 2 minutes’ walk to the St Christophbahn chairlift • 4 minutes’ walk to the resort centre • 2 minutes’ walk to the ski school meeting point
