El Tarter is a popular choice for a family ski holiday. It offers great value for money and Andorra is tax free so your in resort expenditure is reduced. It has a resort height of 1710m and offers good snow security throughout the winter.
El Tarter is located right next to Soldeu but the two resorts were not officially linked up until the winter of 1981-1982. IN the Winter of 2003-2004 further lifts were built which linked up El Tarter and Soldeu with Pas de la Casa, Canillo and Grau Roig. This linked ski area is now know as the Grandvalira and offer 205km of piste that can be skied on the one lift pass.
El Tarter is located 1.5kms apart from Soldeu and is more suited for families and couples looking to relax, as it is much quieter than its neighbour. El Tarter has great access to the slopes with a 10-person cable car and 4-person chair lift taking you straight to the action. It also has its own ski school, shops, restaurants and bowling ally.
We have a great choice of accommodation options on offer in El Tarter. Why not call your friendly iSki sales team on 02037780124 to see how we can help find you the perfect ski holidays.
El Tarter is in the middle of the Pyrenees mountains. It has a resort height of 1710m and it is part of the Grandvalira ski area, with 205km of piste to explore. Within the Grandvalira El Tarter is linked up with other ski resorts, namely Soldeu, Pas de la Casa, Canillo and Grau Roig. It is a ski area that offers skiing for all abilities but is particularly suited for intermediate / upper-intermediate skiers.
El Tarter has an award-winning English speaking ski school and many multi-lingual instructors so it is great for British holidaymakers wanting to learn to ski. The main area for beginners in El Tarter is called Riba Escorada but once you have grasped the basics there are plenty of more challenging slopes to move on too. El Tarter is particularly good value for beginner skiers as you can often book a heavily reduced rice lift pass, for those who have never skied before, if you also book ski rentals and lessons.
The skiing in El Tarter and the Grandvalira as a whole is perfect for intermediate skiers. 205km of piste is more than enough to keep you happy and there are 38 blue and 32 red runs to practice your skills on. The Grandvalira really is an intermediate skiers paradise.
With 22 black runs spread throughout the region, there is plenty of challenging skiing to keep even the most experienced skier going for a week's holidays. There is also a whole host of off-piste skiing to be discovered for those who do not want to just stick to the marked out route. They also offer Cat skiing where you can take out the mountain by a Snow Cat to give you access to powder fields that would otherwise be inaccessible with a huge hike!
The Grandvalira and El Tarter is great for snowboarders with some lovely tracks through the trees to be found along with natural jumps and bumps to practice jibs on. The area has a well looked after snow park with kickers and rails as well as a half pipe.

There is not all that much apres-ski going on in El Tarter in comparison to its neighbor Soldeu. El Tarter is a much quieter village which appeals more to holidaymakers who are looking to take advantage of the easy access to the Grandvalira ski area but want to steer clear of any busy late-night bars or loud apres-ski venues. There are still bars and restaurants in El Tarter for you to enjoy so you don't have to worry about it being a sole less ghost town, but just don't head there in search of a week's skiing and partying.
