La Massana is a pretty little village set high within the Andorran mountains. The landscape surrounding La Massana, is dominated by many towering peaks including, the 2946m Comapedrosa Mountain. La Massana is one of the 3 villages that make up Andorra’s second largest ski area the Vallnord. The Vallnord ski area includes the villages of Pal and Arinsal and offers 93km of well-groomed slopes that have long been a family favorite.
The Resort is at 1550m and has a direct gondola lift to the Pas-Arinsal ski area. The Arinsal area offers wide gentle slopes, perfect for beginners, whereas the Pal area is more suited to intermediates. La Massana is a relatively new resort so nightlife is quieter than neighboring Arinsal and Pal, and there is no official run back into town, however, the towns are linked by an efficient bus service.
One of the advantages of taking a holiday in Andorra over some of the other French resorts is that it offers duty-free shopping, so it the ideal ski holiday destination for skiing on a budget. La Massana is part of the Vallnord ski area, (Andorra’s second largest) there are 93km of well-groomed slopes that are perfectly suited for beginners and intermediate skiers alike.
La Massana is connected to the Vallnord ski area, by a gondola that is located in the centre of town. This gondola will take approximately 10 minutes to reach the Pal-Arinsal ski area. The Arinsal base of the mountain has the best beginner and gentle nursery runs. Please ask our experts about our “learn to ski packages”
If you take the La Massana gondola up to the Pal-Arinsal area, there are many great long and wide red slopes on offer. Or why not try the red runs through the trees perfect for carving on.
For expert skiers try the challenging La comellada black run, or enjoy the off-piste trails trough the trees. For the more adventurous why not take the bus (bus operates twice daily) to Ordino and Arcalis. Here there are 24km of slopes that are covered under the Vallord ski pass.
There is a large snowpark in Arinsal, with half-pipe, big air and a selection of ski jumps.
The town of La Massana is relatively new so the resort is relatively quiet, when compared to neighboring Pal and Arinsal. However, the is a good selection of bars, restaurants and shops in the centre. If you wish to travel to Pal or Arinsal where there are a better selection of bars and duty-free shops, there is a regular bus service that takes around 10 minutes.
